Q.  How did your journey with this craft begin? Was it a slow burn or love at first sight?

A.  I think my art/creative journey began before I was 5 years old.  It seems I’ve always had a love of keeping my hands busy with making “things”.

Q.  What part of the making process brings you the most peace, and which part tests your patience the most?

A.  It would depend on what I’m creating at the time.  I think there are certain zones throughout the creation process.  Excitement in the starting, often frustration throughout and satisfaction when a piece it finally complete.  The peace for me probably hits when I can see the end result all coming together.

Q.  How would you describe the personality of your work in three words?

A.  Quiet. Expressive. Playful.

Q.  What do you hope someone feels or experiences when they bring one of your pieces into their home?

A.  Hopefully comfort, meaning and beauty.

Q.  When you start a new piece, do you usually have a strict plan in mind, or do you let the materials guide you as you go?

A.  I would say the plan and materials I’ve chosen would go hand in hand.  If you start off with too ‘strict’ a plan, more often than not the materials will dictate how it ends up. So flexibility is definitely key!!

Q.  How has your work evolved from when you first started out to the collection we see in the shop today?

A.  Oh my goodness!  Growth!!  From raw beginnings, but evolving to saleable pieces has been so gratifying.  We all need to learn and KEEP learning.  It never really ends.  I always welcome learning new and better.  But remembering how raw I was in the beginning is always humbling.

Q.  Aside from the finished product, what is the most rewarding part of being a maker for you?

A.  Creating gives me space to slow down, be present, and express myself. The finished piece is just the bonus.  I love the journey from the idea to something tangible. Every piece teaches me patience and every finished creation carries a little piece of my heart.

Q.  Sketching it out or jumping right in?

A.  I enjoy both methods.

Q.  Coffee, tea, or something cold?

A.  Coffee if very early….cold water the rest of the day.

Q.  Work on one piece at a time or batch create?

A.  Generally one piece or maybe two at a time.  Unfortunately I don’t have the space to batch create.

Q.  What percentage of your wardrobe has clay residue on it?

A.  Only my apron….thank goodness!!

Q.  If your creative space had a warning label, what would it say?

A.  May lose track of time!!!
