Emma Does Pottery – Firing Services Terms & Conditions
We require a completed firing form each time you submit items. One form is to be submitted per firing type.
At Emma Does Pottery, we take all due care when handling items, however we are not responsible for, nor accept any liability for, any losses or damages to your items while in our possession.
We reserve the right to refuse any items which we feel may cause issues. Reasons your items may be refused include (but are not limited to):
no firing form has been provided, or your firing form is incomplete;
overly/unevenly thick or solid pieces;
hollow pieces without any vent holes to the interior;
includes foreign objects such as paper, wool, wood, or non-refractory metals;
overly thick use of glazes;
glazed bottoms;
glazes too close to the bottom; or
unsuitable size
Please ensure you know what clay body and glazes / decorations you have used on each item. This information is essential for firing, and ensuring all work is protected.
We can accept firings for:
bisque (~1000°C)
earthenware (~1100°C)
cones 4 – 8 (~1160°C – ~1260°C)
When submitting items for bisque firing they MUST:
have your maker's mark;
be bone dry;
be provided in a box with your full name, maker's mark, and phone number written on the box (the box will be returned to you with your fired items); and
have a completed firing form included – you must complete a separate form for each firing type.
When submitting items for glaze firing they MUST:
have already been bisque-fired – we do not conduct single firings;
have your maker's mark;
have a completely glaze free base;
have at least 5mm of clear space from the base up that is glaze free;
be provided in a box with your full name, maker's mark, and phone number written on the box (the box will be returned to you with your fired items); and
have a completed firing form included – you must complete a separate form for each firing type.
All items are weighed at the completion of the firing process and charged at a rate of $16.00 per kilogram. All firings incur a minimum charge of $8.00 (500 grams).
At Emma Does Pottery we have two kilns available for firing.
BETTY - Small kiln – maximum item size of 300mm x 300mm and a height of 250mm;
BRUCE - Large kiln – maximum item size of 350mm x 350mm and a height of 500mm;
If you have a large item or, if you have a large volume of items whereby the kiln cannot accommodate other items, you will be charged for a full kiln hire. We will always advise you of this prior to commencing firing. You can also request full kiln hire if you do not wish your items to be fired with other people's works. Full kiln hire is charged at the following rates:
BETTY - small kiln @ $140.00;
BRUCE - large kiln @ $210.00
We recommended taking photographs of your work prior to submission for your own reference.
A cookie is required for any of your items that:
have a fluid / runny glaze;
are made from BRT or other heavily grogged clay; or
have any risk of causing damage to the kiln shelf
We have a limited number of cookies available for use if you do not have your own. Please advise if you require a cookie on your submission form. You will only be charged if your item damages a provided cookie in a manner that makes it unsuitable for re-use. The fee for a damaged cookie provided by Emma Does Pottery is $4.00.
If your work causes damage to the kiln, you may be required to pay for any replacements and / or repairs:
a kiln shelf with minor damage that can be cleaned will be charged a fee of $15.00 per shelf;
a kiln shelf with major damage that cannot be cleaned will be charged a shelf replacement fee of up to $95.00 per shelf; or
any other damage to other parts of the kiln (eg: elements or bricks) will be charged a fee based on the severity of the damage and the associated repair or replacement costs
Emma Does Pottery cannot offer long-term storage of fired items. Once you receive notification your item/s are ready to collect, you will be required to collect within seven (7) days. Any items not collected within four (4) weeks will be disposed of.
